About our commitment to more environmentally friendly materials

In a world that is increasingly committed to the idea of sustainability, it is time to rethink our perspective on urban furniture. We want to do better!

We recognise that wood is a renewable and potentially sustainable raw material that can be used sensibly and efficiently in many areas. Nevertheless, we believe that every raw material, especially when it comes directly from nature, should be used with care and a sense of responsibility. The use of wood for street furniture and outdoor furniture, where it is exposed to faster wear and tear and more intensive maintenance, leads to an unnecessary burden on our environment. Wood that is robust enough for outdoor weathering comes from tropical areas. There, forests are cut down and transported across the globe to be used for furniture.

Is it worth it when there are much more sustainable materials available? We think so: No!

With this in mind, we at BENKERT BÄNKE have opted for alternative materials far removed from wood that are both environmentally friendly and fulfil the requirements of urban spaces. We opted for 100% recyclable stainless steel and 100% recyclable thermo-PET. Not only are these materials themselves made from recycled material and are fully recyclable, they also offer superior properties in terms of durability and low maintenance.

By using these innovative materials, we reduce the need to cut down trees for urban furniture and thus contribute to a more responsible use of our natural resources. Our benches are not only functional and aesthetically pleasing, but also symbols of sustainable awareness.
